Art that heals / Мистецтво, яке лікує

Background Dům Dobra has long supported art therapy meetings with Ukrainian soldiers in hospitals in Ternopil, led by volunteer Olena Khmeľnycká. Through painting and creation, she helps patients with serious injuries, amputations, brain injuries or PTSD, regain motor skills, memory, coordination and zest for life. The meetings take place regularly, for more than two years, and during them, participants create their own works, often for the first time in their lives. The fund provides for the purchase of art supplies. Remember: “Even a small brush can be a big step towards returning to life.”

Winter camp in the Czech Republic for children from Mariupol

In January of this year, we organized and implemented a winter camp for children from Mariupol. As part of this trip, 16 children had the opportunity to spend a whole week in Prague, far from sirens, alarms and shelling. All of them are refugees from temporarily occupied territories.

During their week in the Czech Republic, we provided them with accommodation and a rich cultural and entertainment program: several tours of Prague, a visit to the Technical Museum, the National Gallery and the zoo, a trip to Křivoklát Castle near Prague and much more, including watching top tennis league matches and sports training.

Thank you to all the kind people who provided full funding and allowed the children to experience this winter magic! We hope the children had a great time and will remember this trip for a long time 🙂

In the photos you can see a small sample of the places visited.

Children's camp for children from Mariupol thanks to your support

Children's camp for children from Mariupol thanks to your support

Although we did not raise enough money for a children's camp in the Czech Republic for children from Mariupol in the summer of 2024, thanks to the Impuls2life organization and your support, we organized an unforgettable camp near Kiev, which brought the children a lot of new emotions and experiences.

The camp included the Olympic Games, where the children spent a day in the style of a real Olympic Village. They also participated in a ceramics workshop, team activities and quests that helped them strengthen friendship and teamwork. They also enjoyed daily table tennis training.

The children met dogs trained for psychological rehabilitation, which brought them a lot of positive emotions. The visit to the Museum of Book and Printing of Ukraine was a cultural experience – the children learned how paper is made and books are printed, and tried it themselves. At the Modern Art Research Institute, they immersed themselves in the world of modern art, which inspired them to create their own works.

The camp was a source of joy, new experiences and memories for the children, which motivated them to further learn and develop.

Thanks to your support, we converted the collected money into hryvnias and sent it to Ukraine:

  • Materials for the workshop: 2000 hryvnias
  • Sweets for children: 2259 hryvnia
  • Team building: 3800 hryvnia
  • Workshop "Craft": 1200 hryvnia
  • Bus rental for excursions: 15 hryvnia
  • Climbing wall: 2600 hryvnia
  • Museum of books and workshops: 2776 hryvnias

Total expenses amounted to 29 hryvnia, which helped create a rich and useful program full of knowledge and unforgettable experiences.

Thank you for your support!

Art therapy for injured defenders

In the spring of 2024, during a working trip to Ukraine, we visited our volunteer friends in Ternopil. Activist Olena and artist Rustem have been regularly conducting art therapy in hospitals for a long time to restore the mental health of the wounded. After severe injuries, loss of limbs, bruises, and post-traumatic stress, many soldiers fall into depression and see no point in treatment and recovery. Wounded soldiers who attend short tutorials create incredible pictures in just an hour, drawing with shaking hands, and some even with their teeth. We had the honor of participating in one of these workshops and experiencing incredible emotions together with the wounded. Watching how shaking hands with bruises bring incredible images to life is something truly extraordinary. These are fantastic emotions when you can create a whole picture in a short time and without drawing practice. So many sessions have already taken place in various Ternopil hospitals that the paintings have been gathered into an entire exhibition, which was symbolically called Warriors of Light. In the cards, we share with you the results of the art therapy we visited, as well as photos from the exhibition we visited.

The moderator of the event was Libor Bouček, among the guests were representatives of the Ukrainian embassy, Czech and Ukrainian businessmen and people supporting the fund's activities.

The highlight of the event was a charity auction, during which valuable objects with significant historical and cultural values were auctioned. Among the lots on offer were rare items such as NBU commemorative coins signed by defenders of Ukraine, a Pink Floyd vinyl record signed by David Gilmour, specially signed for the evening, as well as a t-shirt signed by members of the Ukrainian national football team.

As part of the event, there was also an exhibition of interesting objects that were brought from different parts of Ukraine and mainly from regions actively affected by the war. These unique objects became part of an online auction, and all the collected money is donated to help the affected areas of Ukraine.

This charity event became not only a significant act of solidarity, but also showed the power of connection between people across cultures and countries. The evening full of impressions and support carried a message about the importance of mutual understanding and help in difficult times.

Favorite word

In the unique picture created by the children, each word has its place in Ukrainian and in Czech, thereby emphasizing the integration of Ukrainian refugees into Czech society and strengthening bonds of solidarity and cooperation. This combination of languages represents a bridge between cultures and customs, all carefully recorded against a background created by the collective efforts of small creators.

Celebrating the beginning of the new school year

A new school year has started, and with it, unfortunately, new worries and stress. In our Integration Center, however, fatigue will be replaced by joy and inspiration! There is always something wonderful and interesting happening here. We recently immersed ourselves in the magical atmosphere of the world of Harry Potter.

At this event, not only the organizers but also the children had the opportunity to show their creative talents. And everyone was happy to take advantage of this opportunity.

More than 30 children came together to play Quidditch, participate in various games, solve puzzles and have a lot of fun.

Domu Dobra picnic

The great weather allowed us to spend some nice time outside - we played sports and board games, drew fun masks with water face masks and of course roasted sausages and made hot dogs. Everyone enjoyed it - kids and adults alike!

Thank you to everyone who came, and a special thanks to our volunteers and everyone who helped put on this beautiful summer vacation!

A celebration of young talent

On April 16, we had a very famous celebration of young talents. All participants and volunteers are the best! The children had fun thanks to the entertainment program from EVENT4YOU. The guests at the celebration were offered Easter treats and a fruit table carefully prepared by our residents of Dobra Bohnice House. It was also useful for children - thanks to the exciting science programs by the incredible Stanislav Katsapov! We would like to extend a special thanks to L&Co for their help with the organisation. And of course thanks to Spojka Events for the hospitality!

Good against war

During this evening, we tried to collect funds to support the Dobra Bohnice House and to purchase the most necessary humanitarian aid.

The program of the charity evening included a charity auction of unique artefacts, a themed exhibition, live music, performances by talented children, an audio-visual show, thanking partners and a delicious dinner.

The well-known moderator Libor Bouček hosted the entire evening.

Thank you to everyone who supported us, our partners and volunteers, everyone who participated in the auction, for your generosity and support.
